Our New Home
After renting for 5 years, and moving through 2 states and 2 babies, we finally have a place to call home. We have a lot of projects ahead with this home, starting with the kitchen. But it's a little bit of both of our dreams combined in to one.

Great Room Before and After pics!
This is one of my favorite rooms in the house! I love love love the way it turned out. We worked hard on this room. Stained every single beam and all of the trim around the atrium with gel stain which was awesome and we didn't have to sand or anything. Our bricklayers laid the stone around the fireplace. Dad and Jack tore out the old brick. Dad built the half wall for the t.v. to set on and made the tops from stain-grade plywood. The cabinets I found on craiglist for $100 (total score). Dad did the same board and batten wainscoting as in the kitchen. So happy with this room!

Kitchen "During" Pics
For those interested in the "During"... I am so blessed to have one handy dad and a hard working husband. My husband tore out all of the old ceramic tile in one day! He started on it the day we closed on the house. My poor dad fell on that wooden ladder the first day he started helping us and hurt his ribs so bad he couldn't breath. But he kept on working and was back at it the next day.
I started painting the cabinets in April... and finished in September.
New granite on the kitchen island.
My dad made the other counter tops from wood planks glued and bolted together. And a whole lot of sanding.
Dad built this surround around the refrigerator.
Countertops installed, waiting to stain.
In the corner of the counter top where the planks meet.
Hole in the wall cut out for window in to dining room and for pass through in to t.v. room
Counter tops stained and dad hooking up faucet to sink.
Window is in!
The new lights look great! Added 3 more can lights and 2 pendants over island.
Resin coating over the wood counter tops.
Tile back splash behind sink and bead board on other wall.
Painting cabinets in the basement. Thankful the basement is unfinished.
Chalk board paint on the back of each cabinet door.
